I. Communication Breakdown

A. I was talking to my grandmother on the phone and there was noise in both places. I was listening to my grandmother and trying to figure out what the other people behind her were saying at the same time.

B. The thing that caused the breakdown was the people behind her talking.

C. A Model for Communication as Simultaneous Transaction. Model Figure 1.3 pg 15 in the textbook.

D. Talk in a more quiet place.

II. Your Communication Activities

A. Communicating Intrapersonally: 50%

B. This is what I had expected. I really do not do a lot of communicating during a day’s time. I do more listening then anything.

III. Effective Communication

A. Coach Whitman: Athletic Director

B. He was always very particular about what he says or does. He has in my opinion some of the best communication skills.

C. About 75% of the time he listens to what people are saying. He always knows whom he is talking to. He effectively uses and interprets verbal messages.
